The Week ending November 20, 2020

Kindergarten

We've been talking about the changing seasons and in particular, hibernation. They've seen, or will soon see, the BrainPOP Jr. video on hibernation. We then read two fictional stories about bears hibernating.

All kindergarteners now have access to BrainPOP and BrainPOP Jr. They can login via my site's homepage and then clicking on the BrainPOP link. They will login to BrainPOP by clicking on the login link on the BrainPOP homepage and then the G Suite for Education link. To access BrainPOP Jr., click on the small picture of Moby on the upper left side for a pull-down menu.

The optional activity for kindergarten is to login and explore BrainPOP Jr. 

Grade 1

With Thankgiving approaching, classes have heard Maine author and illustrator Melissa Sweet's book Balloons Over Broadway read aloud. They can view it again on KidsLit TV

Code.org continues to be an optional activity. You can access your login link at: https://www.winstonbarton.com/code.html

All of the first grade classes have had or are being introduced to BrainPOP and BrainPOP Jr. They can login via their Google accounts. To access BrainPOP Jr., click on the small picture of Moby on the upper left side for a pull-down menu. There's a nice video and additional activities on Thanksgiving.

Grade 2

I've focused on coding in code.org. My goal is to have students working on or above the Debugging in the Mazes lesson. They can access their login link at: https://www.winstonbarton.com/code.html

Another optional activity is to access BrainPOP and BrainPOP Jr to explore videos and activities. They can login via their Google accounts. To access BrainPOP Jr., click on the small picture of Moby on the upper left side for a pull-down menu. Try viewing the Thanksgiving video and using the Draw, Read, Write About It activities.

Grade 3

I've put a Google Slides presentations in each of the 3rd grade Google Classrooms. It's called My Zoo. Students are required to search and insert images of animals into the correct slides, i.e. mammals, birds, reptiles. They will also find the Build a Turkey Google Slides that involves a great deal of cutting and pasting.

Another option is to login into to TypingClub. You can login using your Google name and password. Remember the home row and sit up straight!!!

The Week ending November 6, 2020

Kindergarten

We've been talking about what it is to be an author and illustrator of children's books. We've focused on author/illustrator Mo Willems. It's Halloween time and we've seen a BrainPop Jr. video on the origins of Halloween. I've read aloud Creepy Pair of Underwear by Aaron Reynolds. As an optional activity, view and listen to him reading aloud his book at Read and Learn at simon kids.
